I used to think that the big nail clippers were for your toes and the little nail clippers were for your fingers.

I used to have a fear that I would run into Michael Jackson on the street.

I used to have a fear that if I puffed out my cheeks too hard they would explode.

I didn't know how babies were delivered, so I thought they would come out of a woman's stomach.

I had a big fear that a tornado would strike though I live in an area where there are no tornadoes.

This is still true to today, but I get paranoid that an earthquake would happen whenever someone mentions the word earthquake.

I used to wonder if my Aunt, who I was always told I look like, was my mother instead of my real mother. Besides the fact that, age-wise, she is only 10 years older than me.

Wait a minute - that's what they taught us in nail school!! Now you got me thinking again about some of the other ones...

Our mayor kept getting re-elected, of which i was pretty much unaware, so I thought mayors were elected for life like kings.

Because my great-grandmother's name was Queen Esther and she lived next to a big church, I thought she was a real queen

I used to believe my step-dad was a vampire, because he'd always tease me and my brother pretending to be one xD.

I use to believe in all the fantasy holiday characters like Santa and the Easter Bunny.

I use to believe that my dad was evil so I stayed away.

I use to believe that vicious wolves would come through my windows or T- Rexes coming through our woods due to nightmares I had.

I used to believe that God paid attention to all my littlest thoughts and actions. I worried about everything as if I was being judged every second.

I use to believe I had a guardian angel, my aunt told me so and plus I seen my shirt elevate from my chair one nite.

I use to believe if I stepped on a crack some thing bad would happen to my mother. What a crock. I stepped on a lot of cracks and she was fine.

I use to think God talked to me, my aunt said she believed me.

I use to believe if your nose was itchy you were going to get in a fight and if your hands were itchy you would be coming in to money soon.

Oddly, I never believed in the tooth fairy or Santa Clause.

That's what we were taught. What was that from, the training handbook for paranoiacs?! Now I worry about the time I'll spend in purgatory for each tuna can I don't recycle. There I've said it.

I used to think "getting fired" from a job meant you literally got lit on fire
I was convinced for a long time that a burglar lived in my room. Despite the fact that there was NO WHERE he could have hidden Lol my room and closet was tiny
I also thought babies came from their mother's tummies.

Wow.....I can't go back & think of anything I used to believe in when I was little. I never believed in santa or the Easter bunny because it just didn't make sense & no one tried to make me believe in it anyway.....& I wasn't about to do that to my daughter either even though my MIL thought I was a horrible mother for teaching my daughter the truth about Christmas & Resurrection Sunday.

Only once I had a dream that the mountains around the San Fernando Valley were a volcano that errupted & I was watching all the lava come running down around our house......it was a very vivid dream I can't remember how young I was....but I knew there were no volcano's anywhere around....so I never worried about my dream.

I always lived in the hear & now & never had an imagination & my parents never told me stupid stuff to believe in that wasn't real......I honestly liked the way I grew up because there weren't any lies I ended up feeling embarrassed about later on.....so that's also how I brought up my own daughter.....& that part of her life turned out well......but her imagination created some of her own thoughts have caused some problems but until she ever commented on them.....I never know it was how she thought.

Maybe also because I was an only child I didn't have an older sibling telling me dumb stuff to believe either

When really young, my parents always told me to eat my crusts so "my hair would go curly." I believed them, but I didn't want curly hair and when I was forced to eat a crust, I often threw up until mum and dad realised that I really, REALLY didn't like crusts!

Even today I shudder when I go to eat a crust!

When I was really little my mum told my brother that eating the icing toadstools on fairy cakes turns you into a prince, so I stayed away to avoid turning into a boy

I also used to believe that if I wasn't asleep by a certain time, that witches, goblins etc. would be angry and appear in my room...

Similar(ish) to what RoseIterupted said, my dad always used to say that eating crusts gave you a hairy chest; so whenever we had crusts I would keep checking down my top during the meal to make sure nothing was growing!

Great thread, dr skipper! Should be subtitled - "and be sure to tell your t about!!" I can see the countless hours of "t time" that could have been saved if our poor little twigs hadn't been bent this way.

I used to beleive that they used those old stone grain silos to burn witches in. And that there was a monster under my house that would come and get me if I flushed the toilet at night when everyone was asleep and woke it up.

That there was a girl somewhere in the world meant for me and that I was meant for this girl.
Romantic but very silly and unrealistic.

So many things I used to believe. One of them was, my mom used to say that chewing gum would break our teeth because one time when she was little she happened to have one of her teeth chip while she was chewing a piece of gum. I, too, have a difficult time thinking back that far and remembering all of this stuff but there was quite a bit of it.

My Dad would tell me stories about his college classmate Harvey Vanderveen and how he got into all of these crazy mishaps like making a silly face and having it get stuck and how he ate so many donuts that his head turned into a donut and how he got carried away by an eagle and how he got eaten by a shark. They were freaking hilarious!

My family wasn't religious, so I thought all Christian beliefs were the same. I didn't know the difference between Catholics and Protestants and Baptists and all those others until high school.

I also used to believe people could hear my thoughts, so I'd try to cover my ears with hats to keep people from hearing them;;.

Whenever I got a balloon when I was little I never wanted my mom to throw them away, even after all of the air had gone out of them or they had popped. So my mom invented a character called the "Balloon Fairy" who was sort of like the tooth fairy. She would come to take the balloons away when they got old. I don't remember what she supposedly did with them, but it must have been something that I liked because after that I was always excited to put my balloons out for the balloon fairy. The thing is, I believed that she was real and that she came and got balloons from ALL the kids. So I would sometimes mention her in public and it would be kind of awkward!

My big brother told me the apartment they lived in before I was born was infested with lobsters and that's why they moved. I believed him for years.

I also believed if there were no trees we would all blow away, he told me that too.

I used to think I was being watched and filmed all the time and that someone had put teeny tiny cameras in my eyes so they could see what I could see.
It was only when I saw The Truman Show for the first time I realised how impossible that must be and those thoughts eventually subsided.

Another random one, I always thought jelly (or jello as most of you guys probably call it) was actually made of jellyfish, I think one of my older brothers was to blame for that one
