There is a Major Storm in U.S. Extreme Cold, Ice, and Snow and 200 million people are affected across the entire United States.

What are things like where you are?

What preparations have you made?

Keep us updated as the storm impacts your area..

In New England, northeast US, the feels like temp is -20 F (-28C) with actual temps -5 F (-20C) and below

Icy conditions are even getting down to the Houston, Texas area near where I live. I live in a coastal suburb and hard freezes such as being predicted here just don't happen often. We usually go years between them. The low is supposed to get to around 22F (-6C) Monday monday. Brr! Everything is going to be closed Sunday and Monday because people here just don't know how to drive on ice at all.

Hopefully we will not lose power. That did happen during a cold snap in 2021, and it really sucked since we don't have a fireplace, and we have central heating.

Definitely I've got all 4 of my cats inside since right now it's pouring rain. With the temperature dropping, they are going to be staying indoors until it warms up. I made an extra trip to the grocery store for my weekend meals. I still have extra nonperishables left over from hurricane season for just in case.

Stay warm everyone!

Please don't think I'm trying to rub anyone's face in this. The cold is not supposed to reach as far south as where I am(central Florida). On the other hand we had freezing temps last week with snow in the northern part of the state.

Blueberrybook mentioned using hurricane supplies if the power goes out. Is it common for people to have a winter storm kit? I stock up on hurricane supplies every year before the season starts. Seems like it would make sense to do prior to winter storm season.
