All the house rentals I found on Craigslist last year were fake. I found an apartment in Annapolis yesterday on Craigslist and don't know if it's legit. The contact sent me a lease to complete and told me to transfer money to the landlord's fiance. I don't know how to transfer money from bank to bank except with Zelle so he agreed and told me to send it to the landlords' cousin's Zelle account.
There was a woman's name on the lease and an address in Mississippi.
How do I tell if all of this is legit?

My scam alert is flashing red when someone does not accept check or credit card @ArthurFonzarelli - you could check with the city hall and ask who owns the property and their address. Go to google Earth and that address and see what it looks like.

THe only time I use Craigslist is for free stuff.

Why not follow your experience from the past and run!

I was told by one of the moderators that this is a scam. Wells Fargo said I should get my money back after they investigate. @CANDC. I was really worried. Townhouse I have now was from Craigslist and the guy sounded kind of legit.

It’s a scam. Don’t send money anywhere. You need to inspect the place first. There is likely no apartment at all

Oh, there is an apartment. I looked at the building on Google. But I asked the guy for the landlord's name and phone and never heard back from him. Wells Fargo said I should get my money back.
